Charles Byron (CB) Gluys, 83, of Greenfield, passed away at his home on Sunday, March 11, 2012. He was born in Richmond, Ind., on April 16, 1928, and he has lived in Greenfield for 50 years since 1962.

From 1946 to 1948, CB was stationed in San Diego, Calif., as an Ensign in the Navy. In 1948, he won the Indiana State Pistol Shooting Championship. CB married Patricia Wheeler in 1953. In 1955, CB graduated from Purdue University with a degree in Industrial Economics.

For most of his career, CB was a self-employed Marketing Research Consultant. In the latter years of his career, CB was employed at Indiana Precision Technology, where he was the first retiree of the Greenfield operation. After retirement, CB enjoyed reading, listening to jazz & Dixie land music, playing cards, especially Bridge with his friends, telling jokes and humoring his many acquaintances in Greenfield.

CB was a Lifetime Member of the National Rifle Association, a Knights Templar member (Lafayette Chapter), a member of the Masons of Indiana (Cumberland Lodge) since 1955 and a member of the West Richmond Friends Meeting House.

He is survived by his children; and their spouses, Gary (Joan) Gluys of Fair Oaks Ranch, Texas; Robert (Merryn) Gluys of Indianapolis; Marcia (Duane) Brock of Brownsburg; James (Ann) Gluys of Portage, Mich.; 11 grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.

He is predeceased by his parents, Howard and Reba Gluys and his 3 siblings, Mildred Bingham, Helen Hawk and Howard Gluys.

There will be no public viewing, however, a jazz music filled celebration of CB’s life will be held at a later date in April 2012.

Memorial contributions may be made to Santa’s Helpers through the Sertoma Club or to “Meals on Wheels of Hancock County”, located in Greenfield, Ind.
