Helen Rose Lee (Kuhns) Stroh, 86, passed away Saturday, March 10, 2012, at Springhurst Health Campus. Born on Feb. 5, 1926, in Westminster, Md. She was the daughter of the late Paul F. and Helen (Stevenson) Kuhns.

She graduated from Westminster High School in 1942 and was a 1946 graduate of Western Maryland College. She married Charles R. Stroh on August 2, 1952.

Helen was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church and a current member of St. James Lutheran Church. She served the church as a teacher, altar guild member and president, Vacation Church School director and teacher, choir member, a life member of the Women’s Missionary Society and numerous other committees. She was also a Girl Scout member and troop leader; a member of Delta Sigma Kappa philanthropic sorority, and a member of American University Women. Mrs. Stroh was an elementary school teacher in Baltimore and Carroll counties; and was a member of the National Education Association.

Surviving her are her husband, Charles R. Stroh of Greenfield; sister, Marguerite Scott of Massachusetts; daughters, Rebecca (Ray) Pohland of Greenfield, and Deborah (Dennis) McDonald of Virginia; five grandchildren, Matthew and Emily McDonald, and Megan, Christopher (Heather) and Caitlyn Pohland; and one great-grandchild, Landon.

Preceding her in death was her brother, Paul Dean Kuhns.

Visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 14, 2012, from 10 until 11 a.m. at St. James Lutheran Church in Greenfield. Funeral services will follow at 11 a.m. at the church. Pastor Larry Gember will be officiating. Burial will follow at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.
