Marvin J. Rhonemus, 77, passed away early Wednesday, Nov. 23, 2011, at the Indiana University Ball Memorial Hospital following a brief illness. He was born on Aug. 10, 1934, in Greenfield, the son of Arthur and Lois (Ruggles) Rhonemus.

Marvin married Dorothy (Parrish) Rhonemus in Muncie on, June 27, 1969, and she preceded him in death on Sept. 27, 2001. He had served in the National Guard prior to the Vietnam War era. Mr. Rhonemus had owned and operated the D&M Rhonemus Glass Furnace Company for 50 years. He was a 50 year member of Local #19 Brick Layers Union. Marvin was an avid stock car racer and owned several stock cars through the years. He has driven at the Muncie Raceway and won 13 Championships as an owner. Mr. Rhonemus followed NASCAR as well. He enjoyed camping at the reservoir and just hanging out at McLaughlin’s Garage and Muncie Metals, trading stories with his buddies.

Surviving are four sons, Rick (Teri) Rhonemus of Albany, Rusty (Karrey St. John) Rhonemus of Muncie, Randy (Vickie) Rhonemus, of Flagner, Fla. and Rod Rhonemus of Coco Beach, Fla.; 17 grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; one sister, Sue Rabenstein (Ed), Avon Park of Fla.; a special friend, Tyra Amos of Muncie; several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Besides his wife of 32 years, Dorothy, he is preceded in death by brother, Kenneth Rhonemus and his parents.

Funeral services will be held on Monday, Nov. 28, 2011, at 10 a.m. at the Parson Mortuary, with Pastor Rusty Clements officiating. Burial will follow at the Elm Ridge Cemetery. Friends may call at the Parson Mortuary on Sunday, Nov. 27, 2011, from 2 p.m. until 6 p.m. and again on Monday from 9 a.m. until service time.
