Bernice W. Mithoefer, age 90, of Indianapolis, passed away at 11:55 p.m. on Wednesday, Oct. 5, 2011, at Springhurst Health Campus in Greenfield. He had been in declining health for the last year. The son of the late Willard and Bertha (Hartman) Mithoefer, he was born on Dec. 19, 1920, in Marion County and lived his entire life on Mithoeffer road.

  His marriage of 66 years began with Ellanor L. Prange on Nov. 8, 1941, at St. John United Church of Christ. She preceded him in death on April 14, 2008. He loved spending time with his family.

  Mr. Mithoefer operated a grain and livestock farm with his father until 1960 when he left to become office manager of the Marion County ASCS (Agricultural Stabilization Conservation Service) office, retiring in 1983. He was a lifetime member of St. John United Church of Christ. In his younger days, he was very active in the church holding many offices including president of the congregation. He was also a longtime member of the Marion County Farm Bureau Association.

  Bernice lived his life as an example for others to follow as a Christian and a hard worker with integrity. He enjoyed fishing and playing cards with friends and family.

Surviving him are his son, Stan (Kay) Mithoefer of Lafayette, Ind.; daughter, Shirley (Norm) Dingle of New Palestine. He was so proud of his two grandchildren, Brent (Lisa) Mithoefer, and Brenda (Marc) Clapper. He always had a twinkle in his eye for his six great-grandchildren, Rachel, Grant, Alex, Kaitlyn, Payton and Camryn.

  Friends may call from 5 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 9, 2011, and also from 10 a.m. until 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at St. John United Church of Christ (11000 East Washington St., Indianapolis). Funeral service will take place at 11 a.m. on Monday, Oct. 10, 2011, at the church, with Pastor Audrey Alexander officiating. Interment to follow in St. John United Church of Christ Cemetery.
