Fredrick R. “Fred” Hitch

Fredrick R. “Fred” Hitch, age 79, of New Palestine, passed away on Aug. 23, 2011, at home. Born on April 19, 1932, in Crawfordsville, Ind., he was the daughter of James and Nellie (Peire) Hitch.

Fred graduated from Crawfordsville High School in 1949 and married Wanda Jean Peacock on Oct. 11, 1952, in Crawfordsville, Ind. He worked for Ford Motor Company in Indianapolis as an Inspector for 30 years before retiring in 1987.

Mr. Hitch was a member of the UAW #1111 in Indianapolis, the Masonic Lodge #404 in New Palestine, and the York Rite. He was also a veteran who served in the United States Army.

Surviving him are his wife, Wanda Jean Peacock of New Palestine; children, Mike (Pam) Hitch of Shelbyville, Ind., Lesley (Kelly Strait) Fleer of Robins, Iowa, and Jim (Amber) Hitch of Clayton, Ind.; brother, James Hitch of Greenwood, Ind.; and granddaughters, Marcelle and Willow.

Preceding him in death were his parents; and brothers, Albert, Frank, and Jacob Hitch.

Visitation will be held from 3 p.m. until 7 p.m. on Friday, Aug. 26, 2011, at Erlewein Mortuary in Greenfield. Funeral services will take place at 10 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 27, 2011, at the mortuary. Pastor Fred Powers will be officiating. Burial will take place at New Palestine Cemetery.
