Dawn E. (McCord) Herring, age 49, of Lakeland, Fla., passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2011 at Lakeland a regional Medical Center after a seven month battle with ovarian cancer. Dawn was born on Feb. 25, 1962 in Anderson, the daughter of Allen and Linda (Walters) McCord.
She was a 1980 graduate of Pendleton Heights High School. She received her BS in Radiation Therapy from Indiana University in 1995. She continued schooling and received her RTT and CMF. She was a member of the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists. She worked as a dosimetrist at Lakeland Regional Cancer Center in Lakeland, Fla.
Dawn served in the US.S. Army from August 1984 to December 1986 as a medical specialist.
She is survived by to sons, Kenderic (Whitney) Herring and Kendon Herring; grandson, Karson Herring; sister, Kim Hurt; nephew, Matthew Hurt; great nephew, Morrison Hurt; parents Allen and Linda McCord; and several aunts, uncles and cousins.
Dawn was preceded in death by her grandparents, Woodrow and Eileen McCord and Oliver and Vivian Walters; uncle, Dan Walters. aunt Kathryn Morrison; cousins, Lance Brown and Tony Castor.
Funeral services were held on March 4, 2011 at Gentry-Morrison Northside Chapel in Lakeland, Fla. Cremation followed.
