Mary Phillips Moore of Grand Lake Villa, Okla., passed away on Feb. 27, 2011, in Grove, Okla., at Grand Lake Villa. Mary was born on April 28, 1917, in Anderson, Ind., to J. Frank and Elsie Snider Phillips.

She married her husband, John I. Moore, Jan.1, 1935. John and Mary's married life took them from Anderson, Ind., to Atlanta, Ga., and then to Crawfordsville, Ind., before they settled in Pendleton, Ind., in 1953. John predeceased Mary in 1986. Mary moved to Oklahoma four years ago, following her 90th birthday, to be with her son and his wife, who became her caregivers

Mary was a homemaker, as well as an employee at Graham’s Department Store in Pendleton from 1955 until it closed. Mary’s memberships included the First United Methodist Church of Pendleton, Ind., War Mothers, Garden Club, and Home Ec. Club. She was a voracious reader, a seamstress, and a creator of beautiful ceramics. She also enjoyed a good card game, especially Bridge and Skip-Bo. Throughout her life, Mary enjoyed traveling the states including Alaska, as well as visiting Paris and Germany.

Mary’s family established the MARY MOORE CHARITY EVENT as an annual affair a few years ago. The last several years the event was a Charity Golf Tournament held on Monkey Island, Oklahoma, in support of Carl Erskine’s THE JIMMY FUND which supports Madison County, Ind., SPECIAL OLYMPICS. This effort has contributed nearly $20,000.00 to The Jimmy Fund over the last three years.

She is survived by her children, Jack (Jackie) Moore of Monkey Island, Okla., Joe (Georgia Calambokidis) Moore of Chevy Chase, Md.; Jill A (Marvin) Kelly of North Port, Fla.; Mary Jane (Sonny) Lawyer of Pendleton, Ind.; Jennifer L. (Dan) Bagley of Anchorage, Ala.; and Jay F. (Lana) Moore of Pendleton, Ind.; twenty grandchildren, thirty great-grandchildren, and three great-great-grandchildren. She is also survived by two sisters-in-law, Marie Phillips and Lois Phillips.

Mary was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; brothers, James, Jack, J. Robert, and Jerry Phillips; sisters, Kathleen Dawson, Betty Baker, Patricia Mahan, and Barbara Phillips; and grandson, Bradley David Craig.

A calling was held from 4 p.m. until 8 p.m. on Wednesday, March 2, 2011, at Robert D. Loose Funeral Home, 200 W. 53rd Street, Anderson, and also an hour prior to the funeral service which was held at 2:30 p.m. on Thursday, March 3, 2011. Burial was in Grovelawn Cemetery in Pendleton.
