On Senior Night, New Palestine senior Tylar Whitaker scored two goals, including one in the final minute, to give the Dragons’ girls soccer team a 2-1 victory over Roncalli Thursday.

Both goals came after Roncalli (8-7-2) had taken a 1-0 lead.

Abby Lambdin had an assist.

New Palestine finished the regular season with an 11-5 record and will play next in the New Palestine Sectional on Oct. 10 against the winner of the Oct. 8 East Central-Richmond match.

Cougars fall in finale

Greenfield-Central’s girls soccer team lost 3-1 to visiting Heritage Christian (10-6) Thursday.

Ainsley Robinson scored the lone Cougar goal.

Greenfield-Central (5-9) begins postseason play Oct. 10 at 5 p.m. against Shelbyville (5-9-1) in a semifinal match of the New Palestine Sectional.

Cougars win third straight

Greenfield-Central’s boys soccer team won its third straight match —and recorded a third straight shutout — with a 1-0 victory at New Castle Thursday.

The Cougars finish the regular season 3-9 overall and 2-5 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. New Castle dropped to 1-15 and 0-7.

The Cougars begin postseason tournament play Monday in the Perry Meridian Sectional against Greenwood (5-7-3).

Dragons lose to Arabians

New Palestine’s boys soccer team lost its season finale, 5-2, at Pendleton Heights Thursday.

The Dragons finish the regular season 7-8-1 overall and 5-2 in the Hoosier Heritage Conference. Pendleton Heights improved to 11-3 and 6-1.

New Palestine will play in the Perry Meridian Sectional Wednesday, Oct. 9, against the winner of Monday’s Greenfield-Central/Greenwood game.

Marauders tie Bears

Mt. Vernon’s boys soccer team’s regular season came to an end Thursday with a 2-2 tie against visiting Lawrence Central (8-5-2).

The Marauders got goals from Colby Smith and Luke Alka. Charlie Cole and Brady Webber had assists.

Mt. Vernon plays in the Hamilton Southeastern Sectional Tuesday against Muncie Central (9-5-1).

Girls volleyball

Royals avenge loss, get 20th win

Eastern Hancock’s volleyball team swept visiting Lapel (21-10) 3-0 Thursday, defeating the Bulldogs by set scores of 25-20, 25-23, 25-17.

In an Aug. 24 tournament earlier this season, Eastern lost 2-0 to Lapel.

The win was Eastern Hancock’s 20th of the season.

The Royals (20-6) play Triton Central (15-8) at home Monday.

Mt. Vernon wins HHC match

Mt. Vernon’s volleyball team earned a 3-0 Hoosier Heritage Conference sweep at Shelbyville Thursday.

The Marauders (17-6, 4-2) won by set scores of 25-10, 25-7, 25-20.

Olivia Johnson was one of three players to have eight kills. She also had a team-high six blocks.

Jaycee Jones and Alivia Morgan each had eight kills. Sierra Holverson had seven kills and 13 digs.

Avery Delello had 18 digs and Ava Whitmore recorded 34 assists.

Shelbyville dropped to 5-18 and 0-6.

Mt. Vernon hosts Perry Meridian (11-10) Monday.

Greenfield-Central’s volleyball team won its final Hoosier Heritage Conference match of the season, a 3-0 victory over visiting Pendleton Heights Thursday,

Greenfield-Central (17-8, 3-4) won by set scores of 25-13, 25-18, 25-20.

Pendleton Heights dropped to 15-14 and 2-5.

The Cougars play Guerin Catholic and Fishers, at Fishers, Saturday.
