Parks, theater to show free movies this summer

GREENFIELD – Free movies are available this summer.

Greenfield Parks and Recreation has its 2023 Summer Movies Series, with movies at various dates at local parks throughout the summer. For dates and movie titles, visit facebook.com/greenfieldparks.

VIP Cinemas will also show free movies at 10 a.m. every Wednesday and Thursday throughout the summer. Called Summer Family Flicks, the series is on a first-come, first serve basis June 7-Aug. 10; no large parties and no reservations are available. Visit vipcinemas.com for details.

Pennsy Trail extends one mile

GREENFIELD – Pennsy Trails of Hancock County announced a new one-mile stretch of the trail is open.

The trail has been paved between Hancock County Roads 400W and 500W. Scouts can earn an environmental science badge at the site through a series of educational stations. Eventually, plans are for the trail to be connected to 600W to create a contiguous trail from Hancock County to west of Irvington in Indianapolis.

Children’s choir to host one-day camp

GREENFIELD – The Hancock County Children’s Choir will host a one-day camp June 19.

The Music in Me Summer Camp is for ages 5 to 18 and includes singing, movement, rhythm and more. It will be at Mercy Road Church – Northeast, 611 Vitality Drive, Fortville. Those interested in joining the choir can take part in new student assessments. Register at hancockcountychidrenschoir.org.

Youth triathlon/duathlon set for June 11

GREENFIELD – The second annual Youth Triathlon/Duathlon will be June 11 in Riley Park and registration is open now.

The event is openfor children up to age 14 and a duathlon is available for those that don’t want to swim. For children 10 and under, the triathlon includes a 100-meter swim, 1.5 mile bike and half-mile run. For children 11-14 the event doubles each distance. Awards will be given to all participants, with medals for top performers in each age group.

Libraries hosting several children’s events

HANCOCK COUNTY – Summer reading at local libraries kicked off June 1, and several events are coming up.

The program awards readers of all ages with prizes for logging minutes or days read.

There are also several events coming up: Amazon John will bring several performances of a comedy animal show to the Hancock County Public LIbrary in Greenfield and New Palestine June 5. Children entering grades 1-5 can join a game program at the Sugar Creek branch in New Palestine June 6; and teens can enjoy a tie dye craft June 8 in New Palestine. A teen Mario Kart tournament is at the Greenfield library June 8. Later this month will be a magician, teen games, a science/invention performer, Star Wars Solstice Day and more. The Vernon Township Public Library will host a tie dye party at 10:30 a.m. Saturday, June 3 at McCordsville Town Hall. Storytimes are scheduled for June 7 and June 8, and a teen Picnic in the Park is scheduled for June 16. For more information, visit fvtpl.org.
