Eastern Hancock’s Ellie Meyer was victorious in four events and Sydney Springman and Megan Adkins were part of three in the Royals’ girls track and field teams’ season-opening outdoor meet on Thursday against Knightstown and Tri at Eastern Hancock High School.

Meyer won the 200-meter dash (30.21 seconds) and high jump (5-feet), individually, and was part of the 400 relay (58.82) with Springman, Adkins and Cameron Koch. She joined Koch, Mackenna Hardebeck, and Kaylee Swan in winning the 1600 relay (5:17.00)

Springman won the 100 hurdles (16.69 seconds) and 300 hurdles (54.68 seconds). Adkins was the top finisher in the 100 (14.00 seconds) and long jump (13-feet, 5-inches).

Other Eastern Hancock winners included, Swan (400-meter dash, 1:14.5), Sydney Hayes (discus, 94-feet, 3-inches) and the 3200 relay team of Hardebeck, Cora McDaniel, Noelle Weimann and Diletta Pianu (15:31.0).

Complete team scores were unavailable. The Royals scored 68.5 points.

The team is scheduled to compete at home Wednesday against Cathedral.

Boys track and field

Royals win 10 events in outdoor opener

Eastern Hancock’s boys track and field team won 10 events in the season-opening outdoor meet against Knightstown and Tri Thursday at Eastern Hancock High School.

Preston Markley won the 800-meter run (2:12) and 1600-meter run (4:55). Kain Sotelo took top honors in the 110-meter high hurdles (16.78) and high jump (5-feet, 6-inches).

The Royals swept the relays, winning the 400 (48.09 seconds), 1600 (3:52.40) and 3200 (9:40).

Aaron Redmon won the 400 dash (58.26 seconds). John Henry Gray was first in the 3200 run (11:03) and John Rodriguez-Lemasters took top honors in the 300 hurdles (46.5 seconds).

Complete team scores were unavailable. The Royals scored 75 points.

The team is scheduled to compete at home Wednesday against Cathedral.

Boys volleyball

Dragons drop to 0-3

New Palestine’s boys volleyball team fell to 0-3 with a 3-0 loss at Franklin Community High School Thursday.

The Dragons lost by set scores of 25-16, 25-17, 25-18.

They welcome Beech Grove for a match today at New Palestine High School.
