Local Rotarians preparing for Gift of Life event

GREENFIELD – The Rotary Club of Greenfield is at work preparing for its 24th annual Gift of Life Auction.

The event raises funds to help medical missions to under-developed countries for children with life-threatening heart conditions. The missions also serve as training for local doctors and nurses, so they can conduct these surgeries on children. The club often takes the proceeds and requests matching grants from the district, Rotary International and other outside organizations; one year, profits of $60,000 were transformed tinto $180,000 with the help of matching grants.

Sometimes, when medical facilities cannot accommodate heart surgeries, the club helps fund travel for a child to Riley Hospital for Children and the Ronald McDonald House. Over the years, the club has helped raise more than $1 million for the Gift of Life program.

The auction is scheduled for April 22 at the Community Life Center on East Washington Street. Tickets are not yet available, but live auction and silent auction items are accepted for the event. Live auction items could include sporting goods; technology; concert or production tickets; sports tickets; home and garden items; original artwork or wood crafts; themed dinners or outings; trips; vacation rentals; and home security items. Silent auction items could include items for man caves or she-shacks; spa treatments, break-out experiences; group wine, whiskey or beer tastings; adult beverages; jewelry; and musical instruments.

Agape seeks new volunteers

GREENFIELD – Agape needs “your boots in the barn” and is having a volunteer blitz to find new helpers.

Agape Therapeutic Riding Resources serves people and groups of all ages who have a physical, emotional, social or cognitive disability by partnering with horses to provide therapeutic riding lessons and equine-assisted learning experiences. The Greenfield organization needs a team of volunteers to assist with a variety of tasks ranging from being a horse-handler, sidewalking during classes, and feeding horses, to helping with property maintenance and various other projects.

No prior horse experience is needed; volunteers will be trained. Monthly, weekly or one-time volunteer shifts are used based on the volunteer’s availability.

Fill out a volunteer application at agaperidingorg/volunteer or call 317-477-2276.
