Dorothy “Dottie” Baugh 92, of Indianapolis, passed away peacefully February 19, 2023. She was born May 20, 1930 in Indianapolis, Indiana to the late Emil Sam and Alice Kingery Sam. Dottie attended Howe High School and graduated from Arsenal Tech High School. She married her high school sweetheart, Richard S. Baugh, on August 19, 1949 and they were married for 65 years and loved traveling together. Dottie worked with Sam’s Cleaners which was owned and operated by her family. She worked a the Disciples of Christ Christian Church – both in the administration of the Missions’ Bookstore and later as a secretary in the Office of Communications – for over 16 years, retiring in 1993.

Dottie was a 60+ year member of her much loved Linwood Christian Church where she served as a Deacon, 60+ member of Englewood Eastern Star and Job’s Daughters. In “retirement”, Dottie operated “Accents by Dottie” – creating silk florals. She loved to spend her time using her gifts of encouragement and shepherding with friends, strangers and family. She led various community groups and taught Sunday school. After difficulty with reading as a child, she became a constant reader as an adult and supported children in their struggles to read. Dottie enjoyed time in her flower garden, listening to music, working up uplifting speaker talks to present, working on art projects, flower arrangements, and making and sending handmade greeting cards.

Enjoying teas – as a youth – evolved into a lifelong passion for sharing elegant outings for intimate tea luncheons with family and friends as an adult. Her motto became, “Don’t let anything steal your joy, not even this!” Her purpose was to share joys and to spread laughter with a daily joke – often corny jokes. She loved sharing her faith stories. Always one who took pleasure in telling an amusing anecdote or good story, she was an even better listener. Dottie was a sweet, kind and loving wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and friend. She loved doting on her family and spending as much time as she could with them and reaching out to her many generations of friends.
