Farm conference coming up at Purdue Extension

GREENFIELD – Purdue Extension Hancock County will host a PARP event Feb. 7.

The PARP event, which stands for Private Applicator Recertification Program, will include topics such as weed control, corn research and more.

The event starts at 9 a.m., with registration at 8:30 a.m. at 972 E. Park Ave., Greenfield. Seating is limited to 40 people; register by calling 317-462-1113.

The event is also sponsored by Indiana Corn Marketing Council and Indiana Soybean Alliance.

Hospice group seeks volunteers

FRANKLIN – Main Street Hospice of Franklin is seeking volunteers for Hancock County and several other central Indiana counties.

The organization offers free training to all new applicants seeking to make volunteer visits in Bartholomew, Brown, Hancock, Hendricks, Johnson, Marion, Monroe, Morgan and Shelby counties.

Hospice volunteers undergo both comprehensive and on-going training to provide patient visits in private homes, independent living, long-term care, and/or assisted living settings; provide emotional and practical support to caregivers in a private home; and provide clerical/administrative support in the Franklin office. There is also a pet team, music therapy and a new dulcimer group forming. Main Street Hospice also works with community members who wish to donate homemade blankets, adult clothing protectors, and holiday items for patients. Heart health classes to begin in February

GREENFIELD – Learn how to reduce the risk of heart disease through a series of four sessions of “Be Heart Smart.”

The free program through Purdue Extension Hancock County launches will be 6-7 p.m. Feb. 6, 9, 13 and 15. Session topics include “know your risks,” “know your numbers,” “heart healthy cooking,” and “take action.” The sessions will help people monitor their risk factors for heart disease and make changes to daily routines to improve heart health.
