GREENFIELD — A Greenfield man is facing two felony charges for crimes against a minor after he entered into a relationship with a young teenage girl.

Austin James Eves, 19, 500 block of Wood Street, is facing a Level 5 felony count of sexual misconduct with a minor and a Level 6 felony count of child pornography from an incident in July of this past summer.

The case against Eves was opened in Hancock County Circuit Court on Dec. 16. Judge Scott Sirk set a $5,000 cash bond subject to a no contact order and entered a not guilty plea on behalf of Eves who has another court date set for mid-January, 2023.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officials with the Greenfield Police Department were informed of a sex crime against a juvenile in late September. The woman told officials Eves had a sexual relationship with a teenage girl who was 14 years old at the time of the incident after meeting Eves, who was 18-years-old at the time of the sexual encounter, via social media.

The report noted that Eves began spending the night at the girl’s home after starting a relationship but was told by adults there to not have a sexual relationship with the girl due to her age. However, he eventually did, the woman told police. The woman found a video of the two teens having a sexual encounter on the girl’s phone, the affidavit said.

Officials interviewed the girl and she admitted to having a sexual relationship with Eves and stated the recording was of her and Eves. When officials interviewed Eves, he told them he didn’t want to answer questions without a lawyer. He was arrested last week and charged with sexual misconduct with a minor.
