Royals pick up ninth win

Eastern Hancock’s girls basketball team won for the seventh straight time and improved to 9-1 with a 58-51 victory at Tipton Thursday.

The Royals jumped out to a 17-9 first-quarter lead, then had to thwart a Blue Devils comeback that saw the home team get within one point. At the half, Eastern Hancock led 30-25. The Royals had a 42-34 lead heading into the final quarter.

Makenzie O’Neal led EH scorers with 15 points. She hit four 3-pointers. Grace Stapleton and Emma Bolding each scored 10 points. Sammie Bolding contributed nine and Ruby White totaled seven.

Tipton (3-3) was led by the game’s leading scorer, Ashlee Schram, who finished with 20. Kaiya Money scored 13 and Hallie Wolfe added 12.

The Royals are back in action Saturday with a 1:30 p.m. game in Kokomo against defending Class 3A state champion Northwestern.

Boys swimming

Dragons defeat Falcons

New Palestine’s boys swimming and diving team defeated host Perry Meridian 124-61 Thursday.

The Dragons won all three relays.

Individual wins came from freshmen Ian Erwin (200-yard freestyle, 2:02.9), and Jake Myers (200 IM, 2:22.25), sophomore Dawson Lynch (100 backstroke, 1:00.47), junior Liam Fuller (100 freestyle, 56.48 seconds) and senior Chase Martin (100 breaststroke, 1:14.29).

Myers, Aidan Kingery, Fuller and Dontae Thompson made up the victorious 200-yard medley relay team (1:52.65). Erwin, Martin, Fuller and Thompson won the 200 freestyle relay in 1:40.81. Erwin, James Watson, Ashton Turner and Fuller won the 400 free relay (3:46.69).

The Dragons host Mt. Vernon Tuesday.

Girls swimming

New Pal falls to Perry

New Palestine’s girls swimming and diving team lost 102-81 to host Perry Meridian Thursday.

The Dragons got a victory in the 500-yard freestyle race from Adrianna Huston (6:08.46). New Pal also picked up a win in the 200 freestyle relay (1:50.50) with Lillie Abernathy, Katelyn Trimpe, Chloe Siler and Sullie Leavell.

New Pal returns to the pool Tuesday with a home meet against Mt. Vernon.
