The car-vs-scooter accident happened on the 400W bridge over I-70. Deputies arrived on scene and called for the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.Team) to respond because of the severity of the crash.

HANCOCK COUNTY — A man riding a scooter on a county road without a helmet was killed following an accident early Tuesday morning. Officials from the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department say at approximately 6:34 a.m. Oct. 18, they were called to the area of county roads North 400W and West 300N for a vehicle accident involving a scooter, just south of McCordsville.

Capt. Robert Harris from the Sheriff’s Department noted in a press release that the crash was located on the North 400W bridge over I-70. Harris noted deputies arrived on scene and called for the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team (F.A.C.Team) to respond because of the severity of the crash.

The crash involved a 50CC motor-scooter and a 2012 Nissan Rogue. The driver of the Rogue, identified as Kaleb Davis, 20, of Greenwood, was not hurt. The adult male driver of the motor-scooter was pronounced dead at the scene. His name is not being released until family can be notified, Harris said.

Both the car and scooter were traveling north on 400W. As the Nissan Rogue crested the top of the bridge, it struck the rear of the slower-moving motor-scooter. The driver of the motor-scooter was ejected and was not wearing a helmet, Harris said.

Davis is cooperating with investigators and voluntarily submitted to a blood draw as part of the crash investigation. At this time drugs and alcohol do not appear to be a factor, Harris said. The investigation is however ongoing.

County road 400W was closed for a about 2 ½ hours while officers from the county’s FACTeam investigated.

Members of the multi-jurisdictional FACTeam investigated with the assistance of the Hancock County Coroner’s Office and the Buck Creek Fire Department.
