FORTVILLE — Officials with the Hancock County Fatal Accident Crash Team are investigating a two-vehicle crash claiming the lives of two women Sunday afternoon. The accident occurred shortly before 3 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 16 at 867 E. Broadway Street, Fortville.

“Unfortunately this was a double-fatal crash,” Capt. Robert Harris of the Hancock County Sheriff’s Department and member of the county’s FACTeam told the Daily Reporter in an email.

The names of the women in the crash have been identified at Darlene Hilmer, 68, Fortville and Donna Wills, 73, Winchester.

“One vehicle traveled left of center, causing a head-on collision,” Harris said. “Since both drivers died, there will not be any charges filed.”

The FACTeam was assisted by New Palestine Police Department Officer Shawn Brady, who will be completing the FACTeam report which is still not complete, officials said.

While some details about the crash are being released, not everything has been filed and there has not been an identification yet on which of the drivers caused the crash or what happened causing one of the drivers to cross the center line and hit the other vehicle.

Harris noted however that both drivers were the only occupants of the vehicles and no one else was injured.

Traffic was affected for several hours while crews worked to clear the entrapment and clean up the area of the crash near Emerson Drive and East Ohio Street.
