WESTFIELD
Gregory Allan Hammonds, 63, passed away peacefully at home on Friday, September 30, 2022, with his loved ones by his side. Greg was diagnosed with leukemia in 2007, had lung cancer in 2020, and brain cancer in 2021. Greg was born in Anderson, Indiana, then moved to California as a baby, and returned to Greenfield as a young child, where he grew up. He attended Greenfield High School. Greg had many jobs but worked for many years at Midwest Mole construction company in Greenfield. He also lived for short periods in Los Algodones, Mexico, a place near and dear to his heart.
Greg is survived by his wife Linda Merritt, brother David Hammonds, sister Patricia Jones, best friend Claudia Hammonds, daughter Nicole Cadd, and grandson, Zack Garrett. He was preceded in death by his mother, Martha Simonsen.
Greg endured many, many health struggles, but lived every day of his life “paying it forward” and thinking about who he could help today. He fought through his sickness voraciously with a “never give up” attitude, was loved by everyone who knew him, and was such an inspiration to all. He will be missed tremendously.
Greg will be cremated, with no future arrangements. He had a “Celebration of Life” bonfire party, while he was still alive, a few weeks ago. It was what he wanted and he was so happy with how many, many friends attended.
