INDIANAPOLIS
Richard William Steinmetz, age 75, of Indianapolis, passed away on Monday, September 26, 2022. He was born on February 13, 1947, to Ralph Reinhold Steinmetz and Mary Jo (Newman) Steinmetz. His fondest memories of his childhood were living on a farm near Lafayette, IN with his parents and two brothers.
Rich attended Sacred Heart High School in Indianapolis, graduating in 1965. Rich played the clarinet and was in the Sacred Heart High School Band. He earned the John Philip Sousa Award while in band. He served in the United States Air Force from June 21, 1965 to June 20, 1969. Rich worked for Minolta Business Solutions in Indianapolis as a copy repair technician for many years.
Rich married Cynthia (Weisse) Steinmetz on February 27, 1982, at St. Simon Catholic Church. Rich was active in music ministry at both St. Simon Catholic Church and St. Michael Catholic Church in Greenfield, IN, where he was a member.
Rich was preceded in death by his parents, his brother, Paul Steinmetz and his sister-in-law, Barbara Bryant.
Rich is survived by his wife, Cindy Steinmetz; his brother, John Steinmetz; his daughters, Tracy (Fred) Hagedorn, Kim Steinmetz, and Shelley (Dace) Keeling. Also surviving Rich are his four grandsons, Brandon (Kelsie) Hagedorn, Daniel (Kristen) Davis, Dace (Aaylah) Keeling, and Brant (Chynna) Keeling. Plus, one great-grandson, Ellis-Holden Keeling. And many beloved cousins.
Visitation will be held on Monday, October 3, 2022, from 10:00 a.m. until 12:00 p.m. at St. Michael Catholic Church, 519 Jefferson Blvd, Greenfield, IN 46140. A Mass of Christian Burial will take place immediately following the visitation at 12:00 p.m. Father Aaron Jenkins will be officiating. Burial will follow at Calvary Cemetery in Indianapolis with full military rites presented.
