Former Greenfield-Central and Ball State star pitcher Drey Jameson was scheduled to make his major league debut Thursday.
A first-round draft choice and 34th pick overall by the Arizona Diamondbacks in 2019, the 25-year old Greenfield native was slated to be the starting pitcher in Thursday’s game for the D-backs at Chase Field in Phoenix against the San Diego Padres.
It was a head-to-head matchup of two Hoosiers. The Padres were slated to start veteran Sean Manaea, who played at Andrean High School and Indiana State University.
Jameson, a right-handed pitcher, went 6-1 with a 0.65 ERA in his 2017 senior season at Greenfield-Central. He went on to star at Ball State, where he was named the Mid-American Conference Freshman Pitcher of the Year in 2018. He was the MAC Pitcher of the Year in 2019.
He had split the 2022 season with the Diamondbacks Double-A and Triple-A affiliates.
He started the season in Double-A with Amarillo, where he went 2-1 in four starts. In 18.2 innings pitched, he fanned 23 and walked four. Batters hit just .197 against Jameson pitching.
For Reno, the D-backs Triple-A club, Jameson was 5-12 with a 6.95 ERA. In 114 innings, he had 109 strikeouts.
