HANCOCK COUNTY — Charles A. Lamb was originally arrested and charged with 14 different crimes in December 2021 surrounding a domestic violence incident against a county woman and a child.

Late last week all but one of the charges were dismissed as part of a plea deal in Hancock County Circuit Court where the plea agreement was accepted. Lamb was given a four-year term with the first two years to be executed and the final two years to be suspended and served on formal probation.

Court records show Lamb, 22, Greenfield, will be given 310 days of jail credit and a “no contact” order will remain in place during the entire term of his sentence. Lamb will also have to enroll in a certified batterer’s intervention program and must satisfactorily pay for and provide proof of completion.

Court documents also show another case — a Class A misdemeanor invasion of privacy charge in Hancock County Superior 2 from a different incident in December 2021 — was dismissed at the time of the sentencing in Circuit Court.

In the case in Circuit Court, Lamb was charged with two Level 5 felony counts of domestic battery; Level 6 felony counts of battery, intimidation, confinement and strangulation; and seven misdemeanor counts. The most serious charge carries a sentence of up to six years in prison with three years being the advisory term.

According to a probable cause affidavit, officials with the Greenfield Police Department were asked to investigate the case by officials from the Department of Child Services.

The report states an incident had occurred on the morning of Dec. 22, 2021 at the defendant’s home, resulting in an 18-month-old child and woman ending up at Community Hospital East.

Hospital officials called police. The child and woman were released from the hospital later that day.

The woman told police she and Lamb had gotten into an argument over his marijuana use, the affidavit said, The woman said Lamb punched her in the face, pulled her by the hair, knocked her to the ground and strangled her.

The woman said Lamb also grabbed the child’s playpack bed while the child was inside it and threw it across the room, the affidavit said. At one point in the altercation, the child hit his head on a wall, the affidavit said.

After continuing to hit and choke the woman to the point of her almost passing out, the man then struck the child in the head, the woman stated in the report.

Detectives noted the woman had suffered several bruises and lacerations.

The woman said she eventually was able to call her father, who took her to the hospital, but she said Lamb threatened to kill her family members if she reported what he had done to her and the child.

Lamb was still listed as an inmate in the county jail at print time.
