Mt. Vernon shot a 184, its lowest nine-hole score of the season, in a triangular match with Delta and Shenandoah Wednesday.
The Marauders defeated Shenandoah (195), but finished nine strokes behind Delta (175).
Izzy VanHeel led Mt. Vernon with a 40. Natalie Miner finished with a 46. Kalin Wallpe had a personal best round of 49. Aubrey Trittipo also had a 49.
Gigi Avers added a 54 and Marissa Miner scored 55.
Cougars beat New Castle, Randolph Southern
Greenfield-Central shot a 219 and defeated both New Castle (227) and Randolph Southern (257) Wednesday.
G-C senior Sydnie Wherry was match medalist with a 38.
For the Cougars, Laney Elliott shot a 56. Tanessa O’Neal finished with a 63 and Reagan Breese had a 65.
Dragons beat Spartans
At Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield Wednesday, New Palestine’s girls golf team defeated Southwestern 233-277.
The Dragons were led by Lily Kirchner with a 49. Janie Hamilton shot 54. Ava Hasecuster carded a 59. Matti Tiede-White and Lauren Purnell each finished with 61s. Marisa Dillon added a 63.
Volleyball
Marauders comeback falls short
Easton Wampler and Sierra Holverson had nine kills each in Mt. Vernon’s volleyball team’s 3-1 loss to host Noblesville Wednesday.
The Marauders battled back after dropping the first two sets. They extended the fourth set, but were unable to force a fifth. Set scores were 25-13, 25-22, 25-27, 27-25.
Defensive specialist Abby Herman had 24 digs. Setter Ava Whitmore had three service aces and 25 assists.
Dragons suffer first loss
New Palestine fell to 2-1 on the season with a 3-0 loss at Hamilton Southeastern Wednesday.
Set scores were 25-16, 25-11, 25-14.
Lauren Wilson had eight kills. Azure Flagle and Honour Mallory had 10 digs apiece.
Girls soccer
Roncalli defeats G-C 3-0
Greenfield-Central dropped to 1-1 on the season after a 3-0 loss at Roncalli Wednesday.
The Cougars return to action Monday playing host to Mt. Vernon at 7 p.m. It is the Hoosier Heritage Conference opener for both teams.
