Dragons, G-C’s Wherry finish third at Greensburg

New Palestine finished third as a team and Greenfield-Central’s Sydnie Wherry placed third, individually, at the Greensburg Invitational, held Saturday at Greensburg Country Club.

The Dragons shot a 373. Center Grove won with a 318. Franklin County scored 362.

Lauren Appleby led the Dragons with a career-best round of 86. She tied for 13th overall.

Kate Stanfield followed with a 92. Zoe Nelson shot 96, followed by Hanna Beeler’s 99 and Lily Kirchner with a 103.

Wherry finished with a 79. East Central’s Rowan Pies won with a 73. Center Grove’s Rowen Pfeifle had a 76.

Greenfield-Central finished 13th in the 17-team event. The Cougars scored 424.

After Wherry, Ella Neill finished with a 107. Laney Elliott carded a 112. Reagan Breese scored 125 and Tanessa O’Neal shot 132.

Team scores for the event included, Center Grove 318, Franklin County 362, New Palestine 373, Richmond 376, Franklin Central 388, Mooresville 397, Indian Creek 401, Madison 403, Jennings County 403, East Central 405, Heritage Christian 407, Rushville 422, Greenfield-Central 424, Franklin Central-White 490, Shelbyville 511, North Decatur 534, Greensburg (no team score).

Both New Pal and Greenfield-Central teams played matches on Monday.

The Dragons defeated Greenwood 198-214 at Hillwood Country Club in Franklin.

Appleby led the way with a 45. Stanfield shot 50. Beller and Katie Kelley both finished with 51s. Janie Hamilton carded a 52. Kirchner and Ava Hasecuster scored 56 and 58, respectively.

In a triangular at Hawk’s Tail of Greenfield, the Cougars defeated Triton Central and lost to Rushville.

The Lions scored 201. The Cougars had 207 and the Tigers finished with 250.

G-C’s Wherry was medalist with a 40. Elliott was third overall with a 49.
