New Palestine’s Luke Legault was named to the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) honorable mention Class 4A All-State team, announced Sunday evening.

Legault was a key contributor to the Dragons tournament run that saw the club reach the state quarterfinals. New Palestine finished 24-7, won Class 4A Sectional 11 and reached the regional championship game before being eliminated by eventual state runner-up Indianapolis Cathedral.

He hit .418 with five home runs and 34 RBI. Legault added nine doubles, two triples and scored 25 runs.

Legault plans on playing college baseball at Mt. St. Joseph University in Cincinnati, Ohio, an NCAA Division III program that plays in the Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference.

Sports and Spirits event set

The Second Annual Sports and Spirits fundraiser benefiting the Greenfield-Central Booster Club is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 6.

The event will be at St. Michael Catholic School’s Father Severin Life Center, 515 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield. The $30 event ticket includes heavy appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages; a cash bar is available. Proceeds go toward all G-C athletes. G-CHS special guests and hall of fame members will be honored.

NPHS boys soccer booster club event

The New Palestine High School Boys Soccer Booster Club is hosting Trivia Night on Wednesday, July 13 at the New Palestine Lions Club, located at 5242 West U.S. 52.

Cost to play is $10 per person and can be paid with cash or Venmo. There will be concessions and a cash bar.

Doors open at 6:30 p.m. with trivia scheduled to start at 7 p.m.

Winners will take home prizes.

Marauders on live stream

Mt. Vernon’s athletics department has announced the creation of the Mt. Vernon Sports Network (mvsportsnetwork.com).

Starting with the 2022-23 school year the Marauders have plans to do live audio streaming of all varsity football, boys basketball and baseball games along with select softball and girls basketball games.

According to the website, the first event on the schedule is an Aug. 19 road football game between the defending Class 4A state champion Marauders against Noblesville.
