Ratts graduates with high honors

FORTVILLE – Fortville resident and Mt. Vernon High School alumna Nicole Ratts graduated in May with high honors from the Milwaukee School of Engineering. She holds a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering.

Ratts also received the Vincent Canino Outstanding Biomedical Engineering Award and was in the top three selected for the Fred F. Loock Outstanding Student Award. Prior to graduation, Ratts was also inducted into the Order of the Engineer. The Order of the Engineer was initiated in the United States to foster a spirit of pride and responsibility in the engineering profession, to bridge the gap between training and experience, and to present to the public a visible symbol identifying the engineer. Engineering students are invited to accept the Obligation of the Engineer and a stainless steel ring, which they wear to publicly acknowledge their responsibilities and devotion to the standards and dignity of the engineering profession.

Jennings named to dean’s list at IWU

GREENFIELD – Corina Jennings of Greenfield was named to the dean’s list of Indiana Wesleyan University. Jennings is an Eastern Hancock High School alumna.

To achieve the honor of dean’s list, students must receive a grade point average of at least 3.5 while maintaining 12 credit hours of courses.

Marching band to host garage sale event

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon High School Marching Band will host a garage sale fundraiser 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. July 16 at the high school parking lot, 8112 N. 200 W., Fortville.

Students named to president’s list at MU

GREENFIELD – Two students with Hancock County ties were ranked in the top three percent of undergraduate students for the spring semester at Miami University, placing them on the president’s list for academic excellence.

Krystin Kauchak of New Palestine was named to the list; she is earning a bachelor of science in software engineering.

Haley Hogue of Greenfield was also named to the list, earning a bachelor of arts in zoology.

Miami University is a public university located in Oxford, Ohio.

Sports and Spirits event set

GREENFIELD – The Second Annual Sports and Spirits fundraiser benefiting the Greenfield-Central Booster Club is scheduled for 7 p.m. Aug. 6.

The event will be at St. Michael Catholic School’s Father Severin Life Center, 515 Jefferson Blvd., Greenfield. The $30 event ticket includes heavy appetizers and non-alcoholic beverages; a cash bar is available. Proceeds go toward all G-C athletes. G-CHS special guests and hall of fame members will be honored.

Pittman graduates from UF

FORTVILLE – Adam Pittman of Fortville graduated in May from University of Findlay. Pittman earned a master of arts degree in rhetoric and writing.

Located in Findlay, Ohio, the University of Findlay was established in 1882 through a joint partnership between the Churches of God, General Counsel and the city of Findlay and currently enrolls more than 3,500 students.

Local students graduate from Franklin College

HANCOCK COUNTY – Several students with Hancock County ties graduated from Franklin College May 21.

Braydon Matthew Augustinovicz of McCordsville earned a master of science degree in athletic training. He is a 2021 alumnus of Franklin College.

Mercedes Sky Cox of Greenfield earned a master of science degree in physician assistant studies.

Samantha Elaine Cornelius of New Palestine earned a bachelor of arts degree in business (management).

Katelyn Jo Lacy of Greenfield earned a master of science degree in physician assistant studies.

Luke Christian Splater of Greenfield earned a bachelor of arts degree in business (finance).

Zachary Keith Tutrow of Greenfield earned a bachelor of arts degree in exercise science.
