HANCOCK COUNTY — A county woman who ran into trouble with the law for burglary and theft charges had her case settled in Hancock County Superior Court 1 during a sentencing hearing Wednesday, June 29.

Ariana Jolynn Jake, 29, 5000 block of N. Plymouth Court, McCordsville, had her case end when a plea agreement was accepted by the court earlier this week and she was sentenced for her crimes by Magistrate Cody Coombs. Jake was facing a Level 4 felony count of burglary and two Level 6 felony crimes with the most serious charge carrying up to a 12-year sentence.

As part of the plea agreement, Jake pleaded guilty to the Level 4 felony burglary and was given a five-year sentence with four years to be served in prison and one year suspended to probation. She also pleaded guilty to a Level 6 felony count of auto theft and was given a two-year term with two years to be executed in prison. That sentence however will run concurrently with the Level 4 felony charge, documents state.

As part of the deal, another Level 6 felony charge of theft was dismissed. Jake may petition the court to have the sentence modified after three years if she completes recovery while incarcerated programs, the agreement says.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Jake landed on the wrong side of the law after a night of bad choices in December, 2021. She was accused of breaking into a home and stealing several items, including credit cards, an apple watch and a car from a residence in the 5000 block of North Attleburg Drive, McCordsville.

Officials from the Lawrence Police Department later located Jake in possession of many stolen items from the victims, the affidavit said.

Jake told officials she met up with a man driving a car and the two found a house with an open window and she broke in, she said in the affidavit. Jake told officials she and the man went to approximately 10 gas stations near Shadeland Avenue where she spent approximately $700 purchasing cigarettes, vape cartridges, lottery tickets and gas.

The two later went back and stole the car from the home she broke into with keys she had taken earlier, Jake said to officials in the report.
