Obituary: Emily S. Hunter, Esquire
Emily Susan Hunter, 38, of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away on June 17, 2022 after an eight year battle with Leukemia.
Emily was born on Dec.4, 1983, delivered at home by her parents Susan and Bruce Hunter in Newport News, Virginia. After Emily graduated from Westerville North High School, she went on to graduate from Lake Erie College with a BS in Legal Studies. While working full time for the Indiana State Public Defenders office, she attended McKinney Law School at night after achieving remission in 2015 and again in 2016. Emily graduated with a Doctor of Jurisprudence degree, passed the Bar and was inducted to the Indiana Bar and started practicing in Sept 2020.
Emily loved animals. She owned several dogs in her life including currently her English Mastiff ‘Bruno’ and rescue ‘Mabel’. Emily was happiest when riding a horse. Owning her thoroughbred ‘Hawk’ was one of the great joys of her life. Her other passion was sailing and boating. She bought her own sailboat as a teenager.
Emily’s quiet demeanor hid her determination and strength. She enjoyed challenges. Emily had a very strong work ethic and was disciplined, which enabled her to achieve her goals in life. Although petite, Emily was a force to be reckoned with. She fought her cancer bravely through torturous treatment three times, with little complaint.
Emily is survived by her daughter Violet, her partner Matt Fergurson, parents Bruce and Susan Hunter, and sister Cecilia Jeffers, nieces and nephew.
A Memorial Page will be setup shortly. A Celebration of Life Service will be held in July. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to Be the Match, or the Leukemia Lymphoma Society, organizations Emily felt strongly about.
