G-C’s Wineinger to play in all-star game

Greenfield-Central’s Megan Wineinger is scheduled to play in Saturday’s Softball Coaches Association of Indiana North-South All-Star games.

The all-star doubleheader will be played at Indiana University in Bloomington at Andy Mohr Field. The first game is scheduled to start at 10:15 a.m. The second contest is set for 12:30 p.m.

Wineinger, who is part of the South team, will play next season at the University of Indianapolis.

In her final season with the Cougars, Wineinger was named SCAI third team all-state for Class 3A/4A.

An All-Hoosier Heritage Conference selection, the senior second baseman broke the school record for career batting average at .487. This past season, she hit .506, scored 36 runs and drove in 16. She had 42 hits, including three doubles and one triple.

Shepherd competes in Futures Games

Greenfield-Central junior Grant Shepherd is on the roster to play today in the Indiana High School Baseball Coaches Association (IHSBCA) Futures Game at Indiana Wesleyan in Marion.

Beginning at 9 a.m., Futures Games participants will showcase their skills, then play in games slated for noon (Navy vs. Gold) and 2 p.m. (Gray vs. Red).

An outfielder, Shepherd hit .373 last season with 12 RBI and an on-base percentage of .500. He led the Cougars in hits (31) and doubles (9) and was tied for the team lead in runs scored (28) and stolen bases (7).

Eastern Hancock to play Providence at Charlie Hughes

Though some of the players have changed, Eastern Hancock is scheduled to play Clarksville Providence, in a rematch of their Class 2A semistate game, at the Charlie Hughes Showcase hosted by Carmel and Westfield high schools. Providence won the semistate game and went on to become the Class 2A state champions.

All four county schools are among the nearly 150 schools participating in the event to be Friday-Sunday.

At Carmel on Friday, Eastern Hancock plays Decatur Central at 4 p.m. and Providence at 7 p.m. On Saturday, also at Carmel, the Royals play Hammond Central at 4 p.m. and Whiteland at 7 p.m.

Greenfield-Central will play four games in Carmel on Friday and Saturday.

On Friday, the Cougars play Brebeuf at 4 p.m. and Munster at 7 p.m.

On Saturday, the Cougars play Southport at 10 a.m. and Northwood at 2:30 p.m.

Mt. Vernon and New Palestine are on the Saturday-Sunday schedule, also playing all games in Carmel.

The Marauders take on Bloomington North on Saturday at 10 a.m., followed by a 1 p.m. game against Penn.

On Sunday, at 10 a.m. they take on Carmel. At 2:30 p.m., Mt. Vernon will face Kokomo.

The Dragons open on Saturday against South Bend Adams at 1 p.m. At 5:30 p.m.they are slated to play Warsaw. On Sunday, at 8:30 a.m., New Palestine plays Pike. At 1 p.m., the Dragons take on Brownstown Central.

Bullock to wrestle in college

The New Palestine Dragons Twitter account announced that former Dragon wrestler Chris Bullock has signed to compete at Marian University’s Ancilla College in Donaldson, Ind.

Bullock won 20 matches last season and reached the regional round of postseason competition. He wrestled in the 126-pound weight class.

The Chargers are part of the National Junior College Athletic Association.
