HANCOCK COUNTY — An Anderson man is facing felony drug and gun charges after being pulled over for a traffic violation.

David Shane Kendall, 43, 100 block of South Drive, is facing a Level 3 felony count of possession of methamphetamine, a Level 5 felony count of possession of a narcotic drug, a Level 5 felony count of a felon carrying a handgun and a Class traffic infraction. The most serious charge against him carries up to 16 years in prison.

According to court records, Kendall had an initial appearance last week in Hancock County Superior Court 1 on June 7. Magistrate Cody Coombs set a $20,000 cash bond. Kendall was still listed as an inmate in the county jail as of print time.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Kendall was arrested June 6 by officials from the Greenfield Police Department. The report states an officer sitting in the alleyway just north of the Speedway gas station, 815 W. Main St., observed a vehicle not use a turn signal when pulling out of the gas station.

The officer initiated a traffic stop just west of the intersection of Pennsylvania Street and Main Street, the report stated. The vehicle slowed down but continued eastbound past the intersection and stopped east of the intersection. While the vehicle was slowly rolling, the officer observed a male, later identified as Kendall, moving around in the vehicle the report stated.

Law enforcement noticed the smell associated with burnt marijuana emitting from the passenger compartment of the vehicle, the report said. Kendall admitted marijuana was in the vehicle. Officials searched and found a brown handgun with an extended magazine in the center console, the report stated.

Officials also located a small black bag with a blue latex glove, and a clear plastic baggy with one peach-in-color pill. An officer found multiple baggies with a crystal-like powdery substance in them inside the latex glove, the report stated. One bag contained 2.5 grams of crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for fentanyl while one clear plastic baggy had 12 grams of crystal-like substance that field-tested positive for methamphetamine.

Kendall is slated to make his next court appearance in July, court documents state.
