EASTERN HANCOCK — Eastern Hancock High School graduates in the Class of 2022 officially wrapped up their high school careers during a morning graduation ceremony Saturday.

The festivities along with the turning of the tassels for the graduates and their families were held at Eastern Hancock High School during an indoor ceremony. Principal Adam Barton led the ceremony and told the graduates how proud school officials are of each student.

“The Class of 2022 embodies everything we expect and hope for out of our students in the future,” Barton said. “Academically, this Class of 2022 finished with 1,017 college credits, or about 68 college semesters before they even walk across the stage … You’re also the coolest class in our school’s history since this is the first class to graduate with air conditioning in the gymnasium.”

This year’s Royals graduating class consisted of 97 students. Senior Luke McCartney was the class valedictorian and Gracie Beaudry was the salutatorian.

Outgoing teacher Teresa Bever encouraged the out-going seniors as the faculty speaker, telling them to not be afraid to dream big.

“Have the courage and strength to reach for the stars,” she said. “The Class of 2022, you’re my last babies and I will love you forever.”

The Royal sea of blue was flowing with students dressed in caps and gowns while spirits were high as more than 70% of EH students graduated with college credit and/or an industry certificate.
