HANCOCK COUNTY Learn about life in another country. Choose your own adventure.

There’s a fresh take at some of the Vacation Bible Schools going on in the area this year.

“It will be something like a cultural immersion experience,” the Rev. Mark Havel said of the VBS coming up at Cross of Grace Lutheran Church in New Palestine. “(One) where we learn about our ongoing ministry in Fondwa, Haiti, building houses for the organization … Zanmi Fondwa.” Havel is chair of the board.

In McCordsville, Outlook Christian Church is combining popular events from past summers to engage children of varied interests.

“We’ve combined our sports clinic and our VBS into ‘(Choose your own) Adventure Week,’” senior minister Rob McCord said. “We’ll feature three tracks: Art, Sports, and STEM.” Each child chooses one track for the whole week — art, including, mosaics, painting, cartooning and other works; STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Math) — robots, slime, balloon-powered cars and other projects; or sports — basketball, soccer, dodgeball and other games.

These area churches are offering Vacation Bible School this summer. Programs are free unless otherwise specified.
