MV band to host mattress fundraiser

FORTVILLE – The Mt. Vernon High School Band Program will host its fourth annual Mattress Fundraiser 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. April 23 at the Mt. Vernon High School cafeteria. There will be 30 different mattress styles in several name brands on display for customers to try, along with adjustable power bases, pillows, bed frames and mattress protectors. Mattresses are available two to three weeks after the fundraiser, with delivery available.

The sale is through Custom Fundraising Solutions, which first introduced the Mattress Fundraiser in Cleveland, Ohio in 2005 and now has over 100 locations working with more than 2,000 schools nationwide. For details, visit bit.ly/beds4mvband22 or watch a video at vimeo.com/637591323.

Community job fair scheduled

GREENFIELD – A community job fair will take place 10 a.m. to 7 p.m. Friday, April 22 at Greenfield-Central High School.

The event is open to high school juniors and seniors 10 a.m. to 3:30 p.m. and open to the public 3:30-7 p.m. On site will be the WorkOne Resource Center with assistance on resumes, interviewing skills and more, food trucks, drawings, small group performances by the Greenfield-Central Choir and childcare provided by students. Participants are eligible for prizes if they stop by at least 10 employer, education or military tables and fill out a passport. Fortville student earned dean’s list

FORTVILLE – Nicole Ratts of Fortville was named to the Milwaukee School of Engineering’s Dean’s List with high honors for the 2022 winter quarter.

Ratts is pursuing a bachelor of science degree in biomedical engineering. To achieve the “high honor” status, she earned a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.7 while earning at least 30 credits.

Fortville Elementary donates shoes

FORTVILLE – Fortville Elementary School collected 1,719 pairs of shoes for the No Cold Feet Shoe Recycling Challenge earlier this year. The collection event, sponsored by Recycle Hancock County and benefiting Changing Footprints shoe distributor, collected a total of nearly 7,000 pairs of shoes through local students. Fortville’s results were omitted from the original announcement of the results.

Eden Elementary School placed first in the competition because they collected the most shoes per student, followed by Eastern Hancock Elementary School and Harris Elementary School.

EH to hold community meeting

CHARLOTTESVILLE – A community engagement event is coming up to help Eastern Hancock officials ensure graduates have skills and attributes they need to be successful after high school.

The school is inviting community and business leaders to attend the meeting at 11 a.m. April 14 at NineStar Connect, 2243 E. Main St., Greenfield. Lunch will be provided. Email [email protected] or call 317-936-5444 for details or to reserve a spot.

Kids summer camp registration open

GREENFIELD – Registration is now open for a local summer camp for children ages 6 to 12.

Kids Kamp through Greenfield Parks and Recreation runs Monday through Friday, 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. May 31 to July 22. Registration is available at parks.greenfieldin.org, click on “program online registration” or call 317-477-4340. The registration fee is $170 for residents of Greenfield and $180 for nonresidents.
