The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection reports.

Dec. 2

Fortville Broadway Diner

426 E. Broadway St., Fortville

Violations found: C – hand washing sink needs to be accessible at all times, corrected; C – employee needs to wash hands before putting on food handling gloves after touching face, corrected; NC – ceiling, walls and floors have debris throughout the kitchen area, to be corrected by Dec. 6; NC – shelving holding to go to containers, shelving below grill and throughout kitchen has debris, to be corrected by Dec. 6; NC – replace cabinet holding utensils by sandwich prep cooler; NC – ceiling in kitchen above steam table is coming down.

Violations found: NC – need to provide paper towels at bar area hand sink, corrected; NC – need to provide thermometers in all refrigeration units that do not have external temperature reading, to be corrected by Jan. 27; C – chicken wings with bone did not reach internal temperature of 165 degrees, corrected; C – dish machine is not dispensing sanitizer, corrected; C – employee observed cutting lemons without gloves, corrected.
