County reports 217th COVID-19 death

HANCOCK COUNTY — The county reported a new COVID-19 death, raising its total to 217.

The victim was a man in his 60s who died on Jan. 13, according to the Indiana Department of Health.

Hancock County added 640 new COVID-19 cases over the weekend.

The state also released its weekly update on COVID-19 school numbers Monday evening, Jan. 17. All of Hancock County’s public schools reported new student cases last week, and most reported new teacher and staff cases. The county’s three biggest high schools tallied the highest student amounts. According to the dashboard, Greenfield-Central High School reported 55 new student cases from Jan. 6 to 14; Mt. Vernon High School reported 47 cases; and New Palestine High School reported 39.
