HANCOCK COUNTY — The Community School Corporation of Southern Hancock County has announced an eLearning day on Friday, Jan. 14 due to critical staff shortages in all six of its school buildings.

Lisa Lantrip, Southern Hancock superintendent, told school families in a message Thursday that there are currently too many staff members in the Indiana Department of Health’s COVID-19 protocols to safely operate buildings. Many members of the school corporation’s pool of substitute teachers are also unavailable for that reason, Lantrip added.

Extracurricular activities at Southern Hancock will be permitted to continue through the weekend unless a specific club, group or sport does not have enough coaches or sponsors to appropriately supervise their students.

The school corporation’s goal is to return to in-person instruction on Tuesday, Jan. 18.

Lantrip said the district’s need for substitute teachers is more urgent than ever. Those who are interested should visit the Employment tab on the district’s website, newpal.k12.in.us.
