HANCOCK COUNTY — A Fountaintown man accused of felony theft and gun crimes has been given a six-year term as part of a plea agreement.

Joshua John Ott, 42, 10000 block of North County Road 250W, Fountaintown, was sentenced by Judge D.J. Davis Dec 1 in Hancock County Superior Court 1. The plea agreement calls for a total six years, with three years to be executed in the Indiana Department of Correction; two years served in community corrections home detention; and one year suspended to supervised probation.

As part of the agreement, a Level 4 felony count of burglary along with three other Level 6 felony and misdemeanor charges were also dropped. Ott pleaded guilty to a Level 5 felony count of carrying a handgun without a license and a Level 6 felony count of theft of a firearm.

According to a probable cause affidavit, Ott was found by sheriff’s deputies inside a car outside a Fountaintown residence in March 2020. He was not supposed to be on the property due to harassment issues, the affidavit said.

Deputies found Ott asleep inside the car and discovered a loaded pistol along with a glass pipe with burned residue on the inside and a bag containing a crystal substance. Both field-tested positive for methamphetamine, the affidavit said. Officials also found that a person who lives at the address reported a firearm missing and that Ott had been inside the residence without permission and had taken the firearm, the affidavit said
