In 1957, the newly formed corporation Fortville Community Center Inc. announced plans for a community center and Olympic-size swimming pool in Fortville.

In 1902, the Ministerial Association in Greenfield was formed with charter members representing seven churches. According to George Richman’s “History of Hancock County Indiana,” the Rev. Daisy Barr of the Friends church was elected president.
In 1985, the Rev. Darrel Riley conducted the first service in a new sanctuary at Mt. Comfort Methodist Church.
In 2018, New Palestine High School won the Class 5A state football championship, defeating Decatur Central 28-14 at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.

In 1996, a tractor-trailer rig struck a house in the 600 block of North State Street. The homeowner was fine. “It’s really funny because we wanted that tree taken out anyway,” he said.

In 1918, 4-year-old George Beamer Davis pulled a string to unveil the James Whitcomb Riley statue north of the Hancock County Courthouse. Davis grew up to serve in World War II and to later work in that same courthouse as a Circuit Court judge. He died in 2012.

In 1997, Greenfield-Central High School cheerleaders Krystle Fultz and Amanda Brewer performed with the Universal Cheerleader Association in the Macy’s Thanksgiving Day Parade in New York City.

In 1917, Dr. Joseph Larimore spent Thanksgiving in France, where he was tending to soldiers during World War I. The group dined on French turkeys on Thanksgiving, and the men enjoyed an afternoon football game, with many wearing costumes. He wrote of the day in a journal he later sent to his parents. “The weather setting is much like a warm November day at home. The Sunday quiet of a winter holiday is missing. We have carried on. … I have no doubt the American Expeditionary Forces have had a big day today, and every one has been thinking of home.” Laramore’s journal was later published in the Daily Reporter on March 2 and 4, 2018.
In 1965, the cornerstone was laid for the new St. Michael Catholic Church building at 519 Jefferson Blvd. in Greenfield.
In 2014, New Palestine High School won the Class 4A state football championship, defeating New Prairie 77-42 in Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis.
