Karon was born April 12th, 1942 to Lawrence and Katherine (Brooks) Matney. She was born in the home of her maternal Grandparents Omar and Edith (Bates) Brooks in Milroy, Indiana.

Karon attended Connersville High School and graduated from North Vernon High School and also attended Ball State University. She was a secretary to a purchasing agent at the state office building and a secretary in personnel at Sears.

She was married to the late Philip Apple, who was originally from Hancock County. They were owners of Apple Agri Sales in Crawfordsville, Indiana.

Survivors include her daughter Lore Apple of Crawfordsville and two Grandchildren Celia Sadjadi (Geoffrey) and Joel Kauth both of Indianapolis. Also a brother-in-law H.C. Smith, nieces Vicky Carr and Cindy Smith and nephews Larry Smith ( Julie) Smith and Von (Crystal) Smith. Nine great nieces and nephews and two great-great nieces, Addi and Nola.

Her husband Phil Apple is deceased. Her parents, grandparents and sister Barbara Smith are also deceased.

Karon was a member of the First Christian Church and belonged to the Elks, Eagles, American Legion, Psi Otes, a Bridge and Euchre Club. Her hobby was Scrapbooking. She spent many hours keeping photo memories for her family. She loved spending time with her family and never missed a play, sports event or any activity of her grandchildren.

She dearly loved her Matney family reunions and cousin reunions with her 24 First Cousins. Karon enjoyed making fudge, banana nut bread and vegetable Soup for her friends and neighbors. She adored condo living.

Karon has elected to be cremated and will be buried at Simmons Cemetery in Hancock County, Indiana, beside her husband Phil at a later date.

Memorial contributions are suggested to be made to the First Christian Church, 211 S. Walnut, Crawfordsville, Indiana 47933.

A memorial service will be held at the First Christian Church on Saturday, November 6, 2021 at 2:30 p.m. Masks will be required.
