Food drive to benefit four pantries

GREENFIELD — The Fill a Truck, Fill a Pantry food drive is set for 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 16 in the parking lot of Greenfield Christian Church (Disciples of Christ), 210 E. Main St.

Non-perishable items collected will go to Kenneth Butler Memorial Soup Kitchen, Hancock County Food Pantry, Fortville Area Resource Mission (FARM) and Shirley-Wilkinson Community United Methodist Church Food Pantry.

The food drive is sponsored by Greenfield Rotary.

Chicken, noodles available by carry-out

WILLOW BRANCH — Willow Branch United Methodist Church will have a chicken and noodles dinner carry-out on Oct. 16.

The church is located at 6254 N. Main St., Wilkinson.

Borgman to speak to seniors group

GREENFIELD — The Primetimers Group of Amity United Methodist Church, 6042 W. County Road 100N, will play host to speaker Lori Borgman, nationally syndicated columnist and Hoosier, at 1 p.m. Oct. 6. Her topic will be “What Happens at Grandma’s Stays at Grandma’s.”

Chili cookoff helps fund Christmas aid

McCORDSVILLE — Blue Angel Connect plans a fundraiser Chili Cook-Off at 5 p.m. Sept. 25 at Christ Presbyterian Church, 7879 N. County Road 700W in McCordsville.

Eight contestants will vie to have their chili named best in the area. The contestants must cook chili on site. Judges will taste at 4:30 p.m. Tasting for the public begins at 5 p.m. and runs until 7 p.m.

First-, second- and third-place awards will be given in two categories: contemporary and alternative. Awards will be selected by a panel of judges: Jim O’Brien from FOX59; Terri Stacy from WIBC; Sarah Jones from SarahJonesReports; Mindy Winkler from HANK-FM and B105.7, along with her husband, Bob Jarosinski, from Roche Diagnostics; and George Philhower, superintendent of Eastern Hancock Schools.

There will also be a People’s Choice award.

This event will raise money for Blue Angel Connect’s annual Holiday Hope Event to surprise local deserving families with Christmas gifts. The families have no idea they have been selected and receive gifts to the entire family, including a Christmas dinner.

There will also be a silent auction, along with a dessert table and drinks. Also, the Aw’Sum Snoball truck will be there from 4 to 7 p.m. serving New Orleans style shaved ice customizable with more than 100 flavors. They will also have vanilla soft serve ice cream on board, available to be stuffed inside the Snoball for added sweetness.

Tickets are $5/per person to sample all 8 chilis. Tickets are available at the door or can be purchased online at www.blueangelconnect.org.

Family Fun Fest is today

CUMBERLAND — Heather Hills Baptist Church presents the annual Family Fun Fest from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 25) at the church, 1421 N. German Church Road, Indianapolis.

Organizers say the event will offer free food and games for the whole family.

Editorial cartoonist to speak at men’s breakfast

MT. COMFORT — A men’s breakfast is set for 8:30 to 10:30 a.m. Oct. 2 at Mt. Comfort Church’s Mt. Comfort campus, 3179 N. County Road 600W, Greenfield.

Gary Varvel, a nationally syndicated editorial cartoonist, will speak on “The Secret to Success — Psalm 1.”

Drive-thru Germanfest set

GREENFIELD — Faith Lutheran Church offers Germanfest in a drive-thru format from 4:30 to 6:30 p.m. Saturday (Sept. 25) at the church, 200 W. McKenzie Road.

Bible college dean to speak at revival

GREENFIELD — The Rev. Bobby Killmon will speak at the Bible Study Revival at Apostolic Pentecostal Church.

Killmon is dean of biblical studies at Indiana Bible College in Indianapolis.

Services will be at 7 p.m. Sept. 25, and 10 a.m. and 2 p.m. Sept. 26, at the church, 1202 E. Fifth St. A pitch-in dinner is set for noon Sept. 26.
