GREENFIELD — Although attendance was down somewhat, a record $142,500 was raised at last week’s Steak’n Bake’n Raffle event at the Hancock County Fairgrounds.

The Rotary Club of Greenfield plays host the dinner each September to raise funds for local nonprofits.

“We had the best year we’ve ever had,” event chair Stacey Wixson said.

This year’s total tops the previous record of $108,000 set in 2019.

Wixson didn’t know what to expect after last year’s event was canceled due to COVID precautions, but she was thrilled to see the outpouring of support.

Each year, the Rotary selects 10 nonprofits to compete for a share of the proceeds at the Steak’n Bake’n Raffle. Each organization tries to raise as much as they can leading up to and during the event, while Rotarians raise additional funds through a variety of raffles at the dinner.

Each nonprofit gets to keep the funds it raises, while the five nonprofits who raise the most split the proceeds generated by the Rotary that night. Since last year’s event was canceled due to COVID, the Rotary invited 14 nonprofits to compete this year to give more organizations a shot.

In all, more than $106,000 was collectively raised by the nonprofits, while the Rotary raised another $36,500 through raffles and ticket sales.

“Our main goal is to give back to the community and make it a better place to live, and to support the nonprofits who support our community,” Wixson said.
