Lois Ellen Apple (nee Carmichael), age 79, most recently of Pewaukee, Wisconsin and originally of Greenfield, Indiana, passed away on September 18, 2021 after a five-year battle with neuroendocrine cancer. She was born on August 11, 1942, as the daughter of Virgil and Mary Elizabeth (Allender) Carmichael, attended Hancock Central High School, and graduated from Ball State University with a two-year business degree. On January 20, 1963, she married David L. Apple, her high school sweetheart and the love of her life; they enjoyed 50 years of marriage, frequently commenting that each of them “got the best end of the deal”.

Lois held administrative positions with Eli Lilly and Purdue University before starting a family, and later spent several years in sales while holding the proud title of “Homemaker”. Lois enjoyed her home – always impeccably decorated for the seasons – her family, especially her four grandchildren who provided her with so much to look forward to, and cherished friendships of many years.

Lois is survived by her children, Ellen (Christopher) Dean and Brian (Beth) Apple; brother Charles Burl (Georgia) Carmichael; four grandchildren, Emma (fiance Jack Masini) and Lauren Dean and Jocelyn and Quinn Apple; and her beloved nieces, nephews, and cousins. She is preceded in death by her parents and husband, David.

A Memorial Service will be held on Sunday, September 26, 2021, at 3:00pm at Erlewein Mortuary & Crematory in Greenfield with visitation from 12:00-3:00 prior to the service. Interment will be held at a later date at Park Cemetery in Greenfield.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Mary E. Carmichael Fund for the Future of Agriculture, care of the Hancock County Community Foundation, 312 E. Main Street, Greenfield, IN 46140. Friends may share a memory or send a condolence at www.erleweinmortuary.com.
