More than 500 cyclists ages 8 to 78 participated in the Hancock Flat 50 on Saturday, Aug. 28, bringing in additional crowds of family and friends cheering them on in downtown Greenfield and along 25- and 50-mile routes through Hancock County’s countryside. The event was sponsored by Hancock Health and its outreach arm, Healthy365, and was returning after a year hiatus due to the pandemic. The roster — featuring riders from 10 states and two countries — was the largest ever for the event, which began in 2017.

Marc O’Leary, 36, won the 50-mile race with a time of 2 hours, 11 seconds. Laurie Elmore, 35, won the women’s 50-miler in 2 hours, 1 minute, 46 seconds. In the 25-mile race, Chad Bowlus, 61, won with a time of 1 hour, 7 minutes, 41 seconds. Lauren Adams, 40, was the top women’s finisher with a time of 1 hour, 16 minutes.
