GREENFIELD — Those interested in training to be a volunteer to oversee warming centers at night this winter are encouraged to register for a meeting Oct. 16.

The Hancock County Community Organization Active in Disaster is seeking to open warming centers that will serve the homeless or others that do not have adequate, safe heat in their home during the coldest winter nights. It takes three men and three women to volunteer each night those centers are open; the volunteers need to be trained for the facility to be a safe place for everyone.

The group is hosting a Salvation Army Shelter Volunteer training from 8 a.m. to 3 p.m. Oct. 16 at Calvary Baptist Church in Greenfield. Email [email protected] or call (317) 372-2304 to register or to learn more.
