FORTVILLE — Family-friendly daytime entertainment plus an adults-only casino-style fundraiser are set for this weekend in Fortville.

St. Thomas of the Apostle Festival is 11 a.m. to 10 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 at St. Thomas Catholic Church, 523 S. Merrill St., Fortville. Bounce houses, face painting, games, live music, a dunk tank and food are available, as well as an opportunity to donate blood.

The night before is Monte Carlo Night, a fundraiser for ages 21 and up. The event is 7 p.m. to 11 p.m. Friday, Aug. 6. Cost is $20 per person or $30 per couple and includes games, food and drinks. For information, visit facebook.com/stthomasfortvillefestival.

INDIANAPOLIS — If you’re heading to the Indiana State Fair this weekend, swing by the Exposition Hall and meet Greenfield-Central graduate Ashley Petry signing copies of her book “Secret Indianapolis: A Guide to the Weird, Wonderful, and Obscure.”

Petry, a 1999 G-CHS graduate, has been a freelance travel writer for the past 18 years. Her “Secret Indianapolis” book showcases where you can find a disappearing painting, a towering “ice tree” or a giant pink elephant holding a martini (any guesses, Hancock County?).

Petry will be at the exposition hall from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 7 and 3:15 p.m. to 8 p.. Sunday, Aug. 8.

GREENWOOD — Fairy tale musical “Dreamers,” written by a former Fortville resident, takes to the stage this week in Greenwood.

Anna Miriam Brown wrote the musical, a story of the power of dance in the face of grief that includes comedy, romance and even magic.

The production, by Creative Grounds Fine Arts Academy, takes place at 7:30 p.m. today (Thursday, Aug. 5), Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Matinee performances are at 2:30 p.m. Saturday and Sunday.
