Baseball, softball pairings shows Sunday

Pairings for the upcoming IHSAA softball and baseball state tournaments will be announced this Sunday via live webstream.

The matchups for the softball state tournament will be announced Sunday at 6 p.m. with those for the baseball tournament to immediately follow at 7 p.m.

Both pairings shows will be hosted by Greg Rakestraw and streamed live exclusively on the IHSAA’s video portal at IHSAAtv.org.

Immediately following both shows, all sectional pairings will be available online at IHSAA.org.

Royals hoops tourney set for May

The Eastern Hancock Athletic Boosters will be conducting its annual 3-on-3 basketball tournament, sponsored by Hancock Health and Ninestar Connect, on Saturday, May 29 at Eastern Hancock Schools.

The tournament has several divisions from first grade through open divisions for both male and female adult players. There is also a B division for high school boys that do not play on a junior varsity or varsity basketball team.

The entry fee is $80 for early registration. The entry fee increases to $100 after May 24. Entries received by May 24 are guaranteed a tournament t-shirt.

Former standouts earn All-HCAC recognition

Nine Anderson University football players received all-Heartland Collegiate Athletic Conference (HCAC) recognition this month, including former Mt. Vernon Marauders Alex Barnett and Tyson Harley.

Barnett and Harley each earned second-team all-conference honors.

Harley received second-team all-conference recognition for the second time. He was also tabbed the HCAC Freshman of the Year last season.

The sophomore quarterback threw for 1,497 yards and 12 touchdowns. He completed 158 of 231 passes for a .684 completion percentage. On the ground, Harley rushed for 36 yards and three touchdowns.

Among NCAA leaders, Harley ranked first in completions per game (39.5), third in passing yards per game (374.2) and third in total offense per game (383.2).

Harley led the conference in completions per game, passing yards per game, total offense per game, passing touchdowns and completion percentage.

Barnett garnered all-conference honors for the fourth time in his career. The senior kick returner/receiver also earned second-team all-conference recognition as a sophomore.

Barnett received all-HCAC honorable mention as a freshman and junior.

Barnett provided 347 kickoff return yards on 14 kickoffs for an average of 24.8 yards per return. He also turned in 54 punt return yards on five punt returns for an average of 10.8 yards per return.

As a receiver, Barnett tallied 25 receptions, 261 receiving yards and two touchdowns. Among HCAC leaders, Barnett ranked second in yards per kick return.
