Nancy L. (Clevenger) Ferdon, 85, died March 11, 2021 at Otterbein Franklin Senior Life Community.

Nancy was born June 5, 1934 in Toledo, Ohio, to parents Richard and Hazel (Woodside) Clevenger. Nancy married Walter J. Ferdon in 1957 and he died in 2010.

Nancy is survived by her son Steven (Mary) Ferdon of Columbus, Grandsons Andrew (Elise) Ferdon of Kansas City, MO, Sam Ferdon of Cedar Rapids, IA, and brother Richard Clevenger, Jr. of Washington. Her son Russell (Jeana) Ferdon died in August 2020.

Nancy graduated from Whitmer High School in Toledo Ohio. She achieved a BA in Education from the University of Toledo and a master’s in education from Eastern Michigan State University. She was a high school teacher for many years in Michigan and Indiana; taught school at the American School of Kuwait in Hawali, Kuwait and finished her career as a high school counselor in Boynton Beach, Florida.

Her passion and mission in life was helping troubled high school kids overcome personal, economic and home environment challenges so they could succeed move into a more secure future anchored by a college education or military service. She was an early advocate for women’s rights and encouraged young girls to become educated to better their lives.

Her hobbies were gardening and spoiling her grandchildren. Her happiest times were family dinners and gatherings, especially those times with her brother’s family and his three boys, Tom, Todd & Tim. Nancy was an ardent college sports fan, favoring the Ohio State Buckeyes, until the day her sons took off to Purdue, at which point her blood changed from Scarlet and Gray to Black and Gold, and remained “Ever Faithful – Ever True” until her passing.

Due to COVID-19 concerns, there will be no funeral service. A family memorial service will be held later this summer. Swartz Family Community Mortuary and Memorial Center 300 South U.S. 31 (Morton Street) in Franklin, IN is handling the arrangements.
