Carvana expanding again after opening 2 years ago

MT. COMFORT — An online used-vehicle retailer with facilities at 6299 W. County Road 300N is expanding for the second time since opening about two years ago.

Carvana, which sells used vehicles online to customers who can get their purchases delivered or pick them up at one of the large “vending machines” across the country, plans to make several additions to its Hancock County property.

One is a 29,600-square foot maintenance building for its fleet of nine-car carrier trucks and individual trucks that deliver vehicles to customers, which the company currently maintains through a third party offsite.

The company also plans to add about nine acres of paved area that will include vehicle storage space for inventory, a 12,000-gallon above-ground fuel tank and an entrance off of County Road 300N.

The additions call for an investment of about $3 million and will add 20 full-time employees to its roster of 700.

Carvana’s Hancock County operation started ramping up in early 2019 with a 95,000-square foot building containing areas for inspecting and servicing vehicles as well as a 37,000-square foot facility for painting.

Later that year, the company announced plans for a 75,000-square foot post-production facility.

The Ben & Rita Realty Group, led by Rita Fish and Ben Crouch, received two awards: Leading Sales Producer, with Licensed Team Member; and Closed production sales over $18 million.

Roy Wilson received two awards: Leading Sales Producer, without Licensed Team Member; and Closed production sales over $6 million.
