Library offers take-and-make Sharpie marker mugs

GREENFIELD/NEW PALESTINE — Teens age 12 to 18 can pick up a free take-and-make kit to make a one-of-a-kind Sharpie mug. Teens can draw their own designs with a supplied oil-based Sharpie marker and a ceramic mug. All materials and instruction are included. Kits can be picked up while supplies last at the children’s desk all day during open library hours on Jan. 19 at the Hancock County Public Library, 900 W. McKenzie Road, Greenfield, or the New Palestine Branch Library at 5731 West U.S. Highway 52, New Palestine. No registration necessary. One kit per participant. Celebrate the life of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. at the Children’s Museum

INDIANAPOLIS — The Children’s Museum of Indianapolis, 3000 N. Meridian St., will celebrate the 92nd birthday of slain civil rights leader Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. on Jan. 18. The day-long celebration will include performances from the West African Griot Drum Ensemble, storyteller Portia Jackson with tales of children from the Civil Rights Movement, the opportunity to practice artistic skills alongside visiting artist Israel Solomon, and a five-minute film on Ruby Bridges in The Power of Children exhibit area. The museum is typically closed on Mondays through February but will be open this particular Monday for the holiday. Due to COVID-19 capacity restrictions, free reservations are required in advance.
