GREENFIELD — Ronnie Mohr, a respected voice in county ag circles who served for years on the Hancock County Sheriff’s Merit Board, died Monday.

Mohr’s death was announced in an email sent by Sheriff Brad Burkhart to members of the sheriff’s department, said Capt. Robert Harris, the department’s public information officer.

Mohr had been hospitalized in the past several days with complications related to COVID-19, Harris said.

“He was a very good man who always supported the community and law enforcement,” Harris said.

In addition to helping shape policies at the sheriff’s department — including advocating over the years for higher pay for deputies — Mohr was a well-known farmer in eastern Hancock County. Since 2017, he had become a fierce advocate for improving visibility at rural intersections. Mohr lobbied lawmakers to pass a bill that would discourage planting crops too close to the road. Even after that bill failed, he continued to draw attention to the issue.

“If we can stop just one (accident) through everybody working together, that would be a gigantic win in my eyes,” he told the Daily Reporter for a story published in August.

This is a developing story and will be udpated.
