Health Inspections

The Hancock County Health Department inspects restaurants four times annually and violations are determined as “C” for critical, “NC” for noncritical and “R” for repeated violations. The following inspections are based on information obtained from Retail Food Inspection Reports.

Aug. 17

White Castle

Location: 2253 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — employee observed touching face covering and visor with food-handling gloves on, then touching face; surfaces touched between food handling such as timer buttons, refrigerator doors, etc. need to be treated as food contact surfaces and sanitized every four hours, corrected.

Mom & Pop’s Grocery

Location: 203 S. Main St., Maxwell

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: C — must have employee illness reporting policy, corrected.

Aug. 18

Foxgardin Kitchen & Ale

Location: 215 S. Main St., Fortville

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — handle of ice scoop in ice, corrected; C — spray bottle with chemical not marked with common name; dish machine is not dispensing sanitizer, corrected; NC — sink in dishwashing area needs to be secured to wall, to be corrected by Oct. 1.

Location: 2221 W. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

No violations found.

Dragon Palace

Location: 413 N. State St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — walk-in cooler has debris on floor; outsides of containers in walk-in have debris, lights in kitchen not working; remove all items unnecessary to the operation of maintenance of the facility, to be corrected by Sept. 1.

Violations found: NC — debris on fans and door in walk-in cooler; provide working sanitizer test strips, seal on walk-in cooler door is broken, to be corrected by Nov. 11.

Los Vaqueros Mexican Restaurant

Location: 301 E. Main St., Greenfield

Type of Inspection: Routine

Violations found: NC — hot water from hand sink by ice machine needs to reach 100 degrees, wiping cloths in kitchen need to be stored in sanitizer water between uses, to be corrected by Oct. 1; C — employee observed cutting raw chicken with food handling gloves then touching reach-in cooler handle; spray bottles with chemicals not labeled, corrected; NC — ice scoop handle is in ice in large ice machine, corrected.
